About us

Phytopathology, Microbial and Molecular Farming Lab (P.M.M.F.)

The laboratory is in close collaboration with the CARAH asbl, a research center associated to the Heph-Condorcet and works in collaboration with national and international industrial partners.

Its principal activities are the development of applied research, technical support (for industrial R&D e.g.) and education (internships, master’s thesis,...)

The numerous research activities allow the integration of belgian and foreign students to carry out their final work, internship insertion as well as for professional integration. For any internship demand please feel free to contact Dr. Cette adresse e-mail est protégée contre les robots spammeurs. Vous devez activer le JavaScript pour la visualiser.

PMMF develops three research axis:

1) Phytopathology

  • General phytopathology (epidemics, resistance assessment, diagnosis)
  • High-throughput assays for biocontrol or biostimulant abilities of extracts or molecules

2) Microbial farming / Applied Microbiology

  • High-throughput assays to find active microorganisms  valorizing some agroindustrial by-products, or building blocks production (coll. With green chemistry lab)
  • Lab develops research activities in fungi culture e.g. the domestication of wild species for soilless production or substrate adaptation in order to include agro-industrial by-products

3) Molecular farming

  • The lab is specialized in the development, conservations and assays on hairy roots. These roots resulting from an Agrobacterium rhizogenes infection enable a production of active metabolites for pharmaceutics, nutraceutics or cosmetics.
  • Our in-vitro platform and our know-how in in vitro techniques allow us to perform meristem cultures or clonal multiplication with micropropagation techniques.
